Bolton Wanderers midfielder called up to Wales squad after Juventus and QPR duo withdraw

Bolton Wanderers midfielder Josh Sheehan has been called up to the Wales squad for upcoming World Cup qualifiers.

Rob Page's side have a friendly against Finland and the World Cup qualifiers against Belarus and Estonia coming up shortly.

Sheehan, 26, joined Wanderers on a two-year deal after leaving Newport County over the summer and has scored twice in seven appearances so far at the University of Bolton Stadium.

He had been put on a standby list for Rob Page's squad ahead of their upcoming fixtures.

But the Wanderers midfielder has now been promoted to the squad following the withdrawal of several players from the set up, including Juventus' Aaron Ramsey and George Thomas of QPR due to injuries.

A squad update from the Welsh FA read: "Robert Page is forced to make changes to his squad ahead of this week's triple headers against Finland, Belarus and Estonia.

"Aaron Ramsey, Joe Rodon, George Thomas and Neco Williams have all withdrawn from the Cymru squad due to injury, with Brendan Cooper, Mark Harris, Josh Sheehan and Ben Woodburn called up as replacements.

"Ethan Ampadu, Tyler Roberts and Brendan Cooper will be unable to travel to Kazan for the World Cup qualifier against Belarus as they were unable to get their Russian visa approved in time to travel to Finland.

They will travel back to Cardiff to prepare for the Estonia game while the rest of the squad head to Kazan to face Belarus."

Sheehan has two caps for his country so far, and his full call up means he is likely to miss next Monday's League One clash for Bolton against Burton Albion.
