Bolton Wanderers make decision on loanee ahead of Newcastle United under 21s clash

Bolton Wanderers have recalled young midfielder George Thomason from his loan spell at Bamber Bridge and is poised to be involved in the squad this evening against Newcastle United's under 21s.

The teenager has impressed while out on loan at Northern Premier League side Brig and was poised to be at the Sir Tom Finney Stadium until January.

But the Trotters have opted to recall the young midfielder ahead of tonight's Papa John's Trophy clash at the University of Bolton Stadium against the Magpies' youngsters.

And Thomason is poised to be part of the matchday squad.

A Wanderers statement read: "Wanderers midfielder George Thomason has been recalled from his loan spell at Bamber Bridge.

"The 18 year-old has impressed during his time at the Sir Tom Finney Stadium and is set to be involved in the matchday squad for tonight's Papa John's Trophy tie against Newcastle United Under-21s."

Wanderers head coach Ian Evatt spoke warmly of Thomason earlier this month after catching his eye while out on loan.

Evatt said: "I must say that George Thomason at Bamber Bridge, what he’s done there and achieved so far this season, hasn’t gone unnoticed.

"He’s going to be a very good player as well, I like George, I like his attitude.

"I like what he’s done there and I think he’s got a future here as well."

Bamber Bridge's season has been put on hold due to the recent month-long lockdown and non-league football below the National League North and South having to be suspended for the time being.
