Bolton Wanderers linked with transfer swoop for out of contract Newport County star

Bolton Wanderers have been linked with a transfer move for Newport County midfielder Josh Sheehan, according to reports.

Sheehan turned out 53 times for Newport in all competitions last season, scoring three goals.

He was yesterday named in the PFA League Two team of the year, alongside Wanderers duo Ricardo Almeida Santos and Eoin Doyle.

And there is are rumours that Sheehan could become team mates with Doyle and Santos at he University of Bolton Stadium next season.

According to Football Insider, Wanderers are closing in on the signing of Sheehan, with it reported he is due to have a medical at the League One club after agreeing a contract.

Sheehan is out of contract this summer at Newport, who are yet to release their retained list.

In April, Newport boss Michael Flynn said talks over a new contract with Sheehan had gone 'flat'.

He told BBC Sport : "Negotiations started months ago. They're flat.

"It's a decision that Josh wants to make at the end of the season, so it's not a negative decision, but he wants to get this season out of the way and if we do go up it gives us a stronger chance as well (of keeping him)."

Sheehan has turned out a total of 179 times for Newport over a loan spell and during his time there permanently, scoring 15 goals.
