Bolton Wanderers handed boost as new contract talks for key defender 'progressing really well'

Bolton Wanderers are 'progressing really well' with talks over a new contract for defender Ricardo Almeida Santos, Ian Evatt has confirmed.

The 25-year-old joined Wanderers over the summer, penning a two-year deal at the University of Bolton Stadium.

He has established himself as one of the key players in the Bolton team and has started every League Two match for the Trotters this season.

His performances in the heart of the Wanderers defence have attracted widespread praise both from those at the club and the Wanderers fanbase.

And now talks over extending Santos' stay with Wanderers beyond the end of next season are going well, Evatt says, and hopes there will be an announcement made soon.

He said: "You can never stand still in football, you’ve always got to be planning and progressing. We’re certainly doing that behind the scenes.

"Rico’s doing outstandingly well and we’re currently in talks with him about a new contract, which are progressing really well.

"We’re a club that are being proactive, we’ve really got our house in order now and we know what we’re doing, we know the plan and the structure behind what we’re trying to do and it’s all fitting together nicely

"Obviously we’re going to keep progressing with all different types of situations and scenarios behind the scenes.

"I think, from what I understand it’s just the finer details so I would think we’ll have an announcement soon - I hope so anyway!"
