Bolton Wanderers handed boost ahead of Stevenage as decision reached over Marcus Maddison red card

Bolton Wanderers have been handed a boost ahead of this weekend's clash over Stevenage after Marcus Maddison's red card shown to the winger against Morecambe was overturned.

The 27-year-old was sent off on his Wanderers debut on Tuesday night in the 1-1 draw against the Shrimps.

Maddison was making his debut for the club after joining on loan from Charlton Athletic until the end of the season.

But he was shown a straight red card by referee Oliver Langford following a challenge on Morecambe's Aaron Wildig.

Speaking earlier today, Wanderers boss Ian Evatt confirmed that the club had appealed the decision.

And it has now being confirmed that Maddison's three-match suspension for the dismissal has now been removed, meaning he is free to play against the Boro this weekend.

A Wanderers statement read: "Marcus Maddison will not serve a three-match ban after an Independent Regulatory Commission removed the suspension following a successful claim of wrongful dismissal.

"The winger, who joined Wanderers on-loan from Charlton Athletic last month, was shown a straight red card during the club’s recent 1-1 draw against Morecambe at the University of Bolton Stadium.

"The 27 year-old will now come into contention for Saturday’s Sky Bet League Two home game against Stevenage."

An FA spokesperson added: "An independent Regulatory Commisson has removed Marcus Maddison's three-match suspension following a successful claim of wrongful dismissal.

"The Bolton Wanderers FC player was sent off for serious foul play during an EFL League Two game against Morecambe FC on Tuesday."
