Bolton Wanderers fans make transfer window demand as Marlon Fossey & Dion Charles debuts assessed

Bolton Wanderers were dumped out of the Papa John's Trophy at the hands of Hartlepool United last night.

Wanderers were dumped out of the competition at the last 16 stage with a late 1-0 loss at the Victoria Ground.

Bolton dominated for large parts of the clash against the League Two side but were unable to finish off several of the chances they were able to carve out against a defensively resolute Pools team.

And Matty Daly scored what proved to be what separated the two sides just before full-time as he pounced on Wanderers stopper Joel Dixon's short pass and rounded the goalkeeper to tap home into an empty net.

After the game, Wanderers fans took to Twitter to assess the big mistake made by Dixon, as well the the debuts made by Dion Charles and Marlon Fossey.

Supporters believe that a new goalkeeper ought to be on the January transfer window shopping list following the error, as positive verdicts were given to the first showings of Charles and Fossey in Wanderers shirts.

Martin Barlow wrote: "We need a new keeper it’s as simple as that. He was just decent with his feet and he’s messing that up now.

"Just like to highlight that Fossey & Charles had good debuts. Looking promising them two!"

@brendanBWFC posted: "Fossey and Charles sounded like a breath of fresh air though, 1 week until the next game, a couple more in the door hopefully."

@aaron_bwfc posted: "Sorry this isn't about style of play, playing it out from the back nonsense- this is just pure lack of concentration from Dixon...not acceptable."

@danbest88 posted: "Silly individual mistakes keep costing us way too much Dixon makes plenty of decent saves but it’s the basics letting him down Same can be said about every player at the moment, wouldn’t put it down to Evatt but his rigidity and failure to adapt will eventually cost us."

@Joe93854993 posted: "Add a keeper pls. I mean it’s one less thing to try for. As soon as Charles and even Kachunga went off it wasn’t the same. Needs to be better and quick. Get them players bought."

@WhiteArmy90 posted: "I’ve been saying it for a long time now. We need a new keeper!!!! Dixon isn’t commanding enough and can’t play with his feet. Awful distribution and communication."

Nichola Hayes wrote: "Better have a keeper lined up."

Dan Pilling wrote: "What is Dixon doing. We need a new keeper in Jan - not convincing at all. The whole team built on a crumbling foundation."

@ab1d03 posted: "New keeper needed immediately."

Chris McKeown wrote: "Think we need to add a keeper to the transfer wish list.. Dixon has some good moments but if he is out of form, is Gilks ready or able to stand in long term again?"

@OneLegWanderer posted: "I live in Hartlepool and while I’m happy for them I’m glad I don’t have the journey home the rest of the fans have, absolutely woeful showing yet again only positives were Dion Charles and Fossey."

@OldManWinter999 posted: "Disgraceful second half that will overshadow a very good first half. Johnston and Santos look settled together, Charles looked lively. Kachunga and Fossey linked up well. But missing so many chances and then to gift wrap one is pathetic."
