Bolton Wanderers 'don't score rubbish goals' and Eoin Doyle stepped up for Forest Green win

Eoin Doyle stepped up to the plate for Bolton Wanderers and the goal he scored against Forest Green Rovers is precisely why he's in the team, according to Ian Evatt.

The Irishman scored his 16th goal of the season in the victory at the New Lawn yesterday which sealed three points for Wanderers.

Doyle volleyed home expertly after a great cross from Nathan Delfouneso before half-time.

Bolton now sit fourth in the table and outside the automatic promotion places on goal difference alone following yesterday's action in League Two, the win in Gloucestershire having temporarily lifted them into the top three.

The encounter was marred by the unfortunate hand injury suffered by Green Devils top scorer Jamille Matt following a collision with MJ Williams which led to the Forest Green man being stretchered off.

Evatt wished Matt all the best with his recovery, and speaking about his own striker Doyle, believed the goal he scored is why he in in the Wanderers team.

And the Bolton boss also believes that his side does not score 'rubbish goals' with the most strikes from open play this season and a higher quality than League Two offers, in the Wanderers manager's view.

He said: “Eoin Doyle, I think that’s his 16th goal of the season and that’s why we have him in the team, because when you need him, he steps up to the plate and hes done it over his whole career. He’s stepped up today.

"I think it’s also important that we wish Jamille Matt all the best, he’s suffered a pretty serious injury today so our thoughts and prayers are with him as well.

“I don’t really want to speak about edges or advantages when a player gets injured like that, as it’s never nice, so I wish him all the best.”

“We don’t score rubbish goals. I think if you go back through all our goals and I think we’ve scored the most from open play in the division, they’re always good passing moves, incisive moves, higher quality than I would say this division offers you at times and we’ve had to do it again today to get on the score sheet.”
