Bolton Wanderers have taken disciplinary action against two of their players, Liam Trotter and David Wheater, after they were caught on camera making offensive gestures before Tuesday’s 3-1 defeat to Brentford.
Trotter and Wheater will be fined and warned as to their future conduct following the incident at Griffin Park, the club confirmed in a statement on Tuesday morning. “The club would like to apologise for any offence caused by the incident,” the statement concluded.
The incident is the latest black spot in what has been a troubled season for the north-west club. They currently sit bottom of the Championship, 17 points from safety, having required a takeover led by former striker Dean Holdsworth to ease a financial crisis that threatened to put Bolton into administration. Neil Lennon departed as manager by mutual consent shortly after.
