Bolton Wanderers' Declan John plan against Salford City which has been affected by postponement

Ian Evatt confirmed that defender Declan John was poised to get more minutes on the pitch against Salford City to help ramp us prospects of starting soon for Bolton Wanderers.

The 25-year-old joined the Trotters on loan until the end of the season from Championship side Swansea City during the January transfer window.

He has played only once for Bolton so far in last weekend's win over Leyton Orient, coming off the bench for his debut in the closing stages.

John was made to wait for his Trotters debut after he picked up an injury in training which affected his hamstring.

The Wanderers defender was thwarted in his attempts to pick up further minutes on the pitch owing to postponements over the past week.

The trip to Mansfield Town last Tuesday was called off for the second time due to a waterlogged pitch.

And yesterday, a waterlogged pitch at the Peninsula Stadium forced a postponement of Bolton's game against Salford City.

Evatt had previously identified the clash against the Ammies as the game where John could have handed his first Bolton start.

But speaking after the clash was called off, the Bolton manager confirmed that John would not have started but would have got more minutes, with an eye on this Tuesday's fixture at the University of Bolton Stadium against Morecambe in mind.

That plan, however, has now been pushed back in light of the postponement and Evatt was left frustrated as a result.

He said: “The plan was for him to get more minutes today but probably not start and then get him ready for Tuesday, but obviously that’s been pushed back again.

"Whether we can get that worked with him on the training pitch, we’ll try and do it, but it’s frustrating really."
