Bolton Wanderers confirm veteran defender has signed a new contract with League One club

Bolton Wanderers have announced that Alex Baptiste has signed a new 12-month contract with the club.

The veteran defender formed a formidable partnership with fellow central defender Ricardo Almeida Santos across the second half of season.

He featured in more than 40 games as the Whites bounced back to League One at the first time of asking.

He arrived at the University of Bolton Stadium in the summer for his second spell with the club, after spending two seasons with the Whites earlier in his career.

Baptiste penned a one-year deal last summer at the club and was in discussions over a new deal with Wanderers.

And it has been confirmed that Baptiste - who was teammates with boss Ian Evatt at Blackpool - will be extending his stay with the club following automatic promotion out of League Two

Evatt said: “For the second half of the season Baps was absolutely outstanding and the partnership he and Rico formed was a big part as to why we achieved what we did.

“He has massively earned this contract and is a big part of our team moving forwards."
