Bolton Wanderers confirm Liverpool Owen Beck capture on loan as Ian Evatt explains signing

Bolton Wanderers have confirmed Liverpool youngster Owen Beck as the club's fifth acquisition of the summer transfer window on loan for the rest of the season.

The 20-year-old left-back has played twice for the Premier League side's first team, both of which came last season. He has spent the early stages of this campaign at Portuguese side Famalicao.

Beck had not featured for the Portuguese side yet this season. He has only been an unused substitute so far and it raised the prospect of his loan being cut short and a move to Bolton potentially in the offing.

Wanderers had made four acquisitions so far this summer. Eoin Toal and Jack Iredale have joined on permanent deals from Derry City and Cambridge United.

Two players have also been brought in on loan for the campaign. Defender Conor Bradley has joined from Liverpool, while goalkeeper James Trafford has been signed up again from Manchester City.

And the arrival of Beck means that the defender will link back up with Bradley as they share the same loan club. The defender will act as competition and a different option to Declan John and Jack Iredale.

It is understood that Championship sides made offers for the defender. However, Wanderers have manage to secure his services for the campaign.

Wanderers boss Ian Evatt said: "Owen is a player we’ve known about for a long time and we’ve monitored his progress. He went on loan to the Portuguese Premier League.

"That didn’t quite work out for him. That can happen and we’ve benefited from that.

“He’s very much in the Liverpool mould, which fits the way we play. He’s kind of a left-footed Conor and we’re lucky to have him.

“Thanks to Liverpool and Owen for choosing us and hopefully he can progress throughout the season and gets some real minutes under his belt. We’re looking forward to working with him.”
