Bolton Wanderers confirm Declan John permanent return after Swansea City release

Declan John's return to Bolton Wanderers has been confirmed with the left back signing a three-year deal with the club.

The 25 year-old defender initially joined Wanderers on loan from Swansea City in January and went on to play a starring role for the club as they returned to League One at the first attempt.

During an impressive spell for Wanderers, he made 21 appearances and scored two goals last term, cementing his place at left-back in the second half of the campaign.

John was out of contract at the Liberty Stadium this summer and Wanderers Ian Evatt was keen to bring John back to the University of Bolton Stadium, if a deal could be done.

And the Bolton boss was pleased to get his man and believes the former Swansea defender is the type of player Wanderers ought to be signing, believing he can be a 'huge part' of the club's continued rise up the divisions.

Evatt said: “Declan was a huge success for us last season after coming in on loan from Swansea in January.

“He played a big part in us producing an incredible run which culminated in us getting promotion.

“He’s a very, very talented footballer as we have all seen and I’m really happy that he has committed his future to us.

"He’s the sort of player this club should be signing and we are hopeful that he can be a huge part in getting Bolton Wanderers back to where we belong.”
