Bolton Wanderers boss Ian Evatt has say on players taking the knee after boos in Blackburn friendly

Bolton manager Ian Evatt is fully behind his players taking the knee and is with them 'every step of the way' with Wanderers to continue to do so this season.

Wanderers were booed by a minority inside the University of Bolton Stadium over the weekend in the pre-season friendly draw against Blackburn Rovers.

It prompted the club to issue a statement supporting the players' stance against racism and discrimination, with Wanderers chairman Sharon Brittan has backing the 'strong and positive message' which the players make when they take the knee.

Wanderers skipper Antoni Sarcevic has vowed that the squad will continue to make the stand against discrimination and take the knee throughout this season.

He has appealed to those supporters who do not agree with the players taking the knee is to simply quiet for the short duration of the gesture, before getting back to supporting their team this season in League One.

And ahead of tomorrow's curtain raiser against MK Dons, Wanderers boss Evatt has backed his skipper's thoughts on the issue and that he is fully behind his players on taking the knee.

He said: “My opinion is we need to stand together on this. I echo Sarce’s thoughts. It’s a strong message and I’m with them every step of the way.

“Let’s just focus on the football and let’s focus on supporting the team as best we can. That’s what I want and I’m sure that will happen and we’ll go and attack the game and try and get the right result.

“That's what we are doing (being focussed on the job) and control the controllables. We’re very much together as a group and that’ll continue moving forwards.”
