Bolton Wanderers boss Ian Evatt gives update on ex-Sheffield Wednesday midfielder Kieran Lee

Ian Evatt said matters will be progressing after an experienced player understood to be ex-Sheffield Wednesday midfielder Kieran Lee trained with Bolton Wanderers.

Speaking before last night's victory over Cheltenham Town, Evatt confirmed that Wanderers were taking a look at a free agent.

The Bolton boss declined to name the player in question on that occasion, but said that it 'looks promising' in terms of potential recruitment.

He said earlier this week: "He'll have a look at us and we can have a look at him.

“He’s probably a player that wouldn’t have been in our reach but because he hasn’t got fixed up anywhere else, he’s now become available to us."

Lee, 32, is understood to have been the player who trained with Wanderers and reports naming him circulated on Tuesday.

Though he did not name the player again when asked about the how the midfielder performed in training following last night's victory over the Robins, Evatt acknowledged that the identity was in the public domain.

And the Bolton boss said the matter will be 'progressing'.

He said: “He’s fine. He’s doing well. I think his name’s out there anyway!

“However, he’s a good player, we just want to make sure that all is okay and do our due diligence, but that will be progressing."

Lee came through the youth ranks at Manchester United before moving to Oldham Athletic.

He moved to Sheffield Wednesday in 2012 and racked up 216 appearances in eight years at Hillsborough before departing over the summer.
