Bolton Wanderers boss admits key change of plan with ex-Nottingham Forest striker Daryl Murphy

Bolton Wanderers boss Keith Hill has revealed he will be forced into a change of plans with former Nottingham Forest striker Daryl Murphy.

The 36-year-old striker joined the Trotters on a deal until the end of the season earlier this month, after agreeing to have his contract at the City Ground terminated.

Murphy didn't feature in the first team at Forest under Sabri Lamouchi and was keen to get away and play regular football.

Since moving to the Macron Stadium at the beginning of the month, Murphy has struggled to get first-team action for Bolton.

His first appearance for the Trotters came at the weekend, where he played the full 90 minutes in their 1-0 away defeat to Portsmouth at Fratton Park.

Prior to Saturday’s match on the south coast, Murphy’s last competitive minutes came for Forest against Bolton in the final league match of last season.

Hill has revealed that he played Murphy for the full duration of the match because of a lack of forward options in the Bolton squad.

“I hadn’t planned on playing Daryl Murphy 90 minutes – I’d planned on 55-60 and then get him ready for Blackpool but I’m probably going to have to put him in ice now until Thursday,” Hill told The Bolton News.

He added: “That’s the situation we’re in.”
