Bolton Wanderers agree new contract with talented young midfielder, Ian Evatt confirms

Bolton Wanderers have agreed a new contract with talented young midfielder George Thomason.

The teenager joined Wanderers last January from non-league Longridge Town on an 18-month deal.

He spent the earlier part of this season on loan at Bamber Bridge, before being recalled by Wanderers and handed his debut by Ian Evatt in the Papa John's Trophy against Newcastle United's under-21s.

He has gone on to play 10 times in all competitions for the club this season and scoring his first goal for the club in the 3-3 draw on Boxing Day on the road against Carlisle United.

The youngster has put in several impressive performances in central midfield in that time.

His contract is due to run out at the end of this season.

But speaking after the midfielder's latest appearance in the 1-1 draw against Morecambe, Wanderers manager Ian Evatt has confirmed that the club has agreed a new contract with Thomason to keep him at the University of Bolton Stadium.

The length of the new deal has not yet been disclosed.

Evatt said: “George is a wonderful passer, MJ (Williams) gives us that energy and a bit of solidity.

“We have got Kieran Lee to come back, we’ve got some very good players in there.

“We have agreed a new contract with him, protecting ourselves as he develops now, moving forwards.

“He is a wonderful young lad. He wants to be here for the right reasons and we’ll carry on working with him and developing him.

“He has got lots of work to do but he’s a fantastic young player."
