Bolton vs Brentford called off after Trotters players' wages remain unpaid

Bolton's Championship clash with Brentford has been called off after the Trotters players went on strike over their pay.

Bolton players have reportedly told club chiefs they will not feature in the remaining fixtures until they are paid the money they are owed.

The EFL has said that Bolton "is now deemed to be guilty of misconduct and will be referred to an Independent Disciplinary Commission.

"The EFL Board will now consider the matter of determining whether the fixture will be played or not."

Bolton's players went on strike for 48 hours in protest at staff not getting paid at the crisis-hit club earlier this month.

The squad vowed not to train after staff were not paid on time for the second month in a row.

Employees at the club were told a new owner would ensure salaries were paid but a takeover didn't go through, which lead to the strike.

Bolton are facing a winding-up order over an unpaid HMRC tax bill, with the case due to be heard at the High Court tomorrow, having been adjourned from March 20.

Bolton confirmed their Saturday fixture against the Bees was off in a short statement on its website.

It read: "The club would like to apologise for the inconvenience this will cause.

"A further update will be released in due course."
