Bolton Tory Chris Green MP says plan B Covid restrictions 'will make no difference'

A Greater Manchester Conservative MP has hit out at the latest coronavirus rules, saying they 'will make no difference'.

Bolton West representative Chris Green was one of 99 Tory MPs who rebelled against the government's plan for Covid passes in a key vote last night.

In a video released via his Twitter page today, the former parliamentary private secretary said that he thinks ministers are set to turn to 'Plan C' to deal with the spread of the Omicron variant of Covid-19.

Alongside the video, Mr Green tweeted: "The government has already introduced 'Plan A' and 'Plan B' to deal with the new variant.

"I believe these will make no difference and that 'Plan C' will be introduced imminently."

The Prime Minister has previously warned that the country faces a 'tidal wave of Omicron', as infection rates begin to rise.

Boris Johnson has urged people to get a third booster vaccine, warning case numbers of the new coronavirus variant were doubling 'every two or three days'.

But, his fellow Conservative Party member, Mr Green says he does not believe the current plans in place to stop the spread of the disease will work.

"Last night there was a huge rebellion against the Prime Minister's plans to deal with the latest variant of concern in terms of the pandemic," he said, in the video posted on his Twitter page.

"Now, my understanding has been right from the beginning that the government's agenda is to ensure that there's a huge vaccine rollout and that's our way through this crisis.

"There have been over 100 million first and second doses and over 24 million third doses vaccines.

"These vaccines are proofed against every variant of concern, ensuring that far fewer people are at serious health risks or will end up in hospital - the government needs to have confidence in this plan.

"And, I think if we all reflect on the details of 'Plan A' and now 'Plan B' being imposed nobody actually believes that this is going to do anything to reduce, in any substantial way, the transmission of this latest variant.

"Therefore, I am fully expecting over Christmas, perhaps in the New Year, the Prime Minister to unveil 'Plan C', and we don't know what that yet means."
