Bolton to play Brentford next week - EFL

(Reuters) - Bolton Wanderers will play their postponed game against Brentford on Tuesday - two days after the end of regular Championship (second-tier) season, the English Football League (EFL) said on Thursday.

The EFL, however, concluded that they would "not insist" on the match being played if Bolton are placed into administration.

"The EFL Board has determined that Bolton Wanderers' suspended Championship fixture with Brentford is to be played on Tuesday May 7, 2019 and the club (Bolton) has been instructed to make the necessary arrangements.

"As previously advised, EFL regulations provide that any league match can be played within four days of the end of the normal playing season (Sunday May 5, 2019)."

Bolton are scheduled to play their league game at Nottingham Forest on Sunday after the relegated club confirmed their first team players would be available.

The fixture was in doubt after Bolton's match against Brentford last weekend was called off when players confirmed they would boycott their remaining games in the second-tier league over unpaid wages.

A Football League founder member in 1888, Bolton won the FA Cup three times in the 1920s and in 1958 but have struggled in recent years after relegation from the Premier League in 2012.
