Lights along the pedestrian walkway outside Bolton train station will shine bright again, Transport for Greater Manchester(TfGM) has said.
But only the floor lights next to the taxi rank on Newport Street, which act as a “guided walkway”, will be reinstated.
This comes after Labour councillor Richard Silvester, shadow cabinet member for highways and transport, asked his Conservative counterpart whether they could be fixed at a scrutiny committee meeting last week.
He said: “When this walkway was put in, it included illuminated blue lights at ground level as a guided walkway feature, vertical lights and small lights within the stone wall.
“All of these lights over the years have gone out one by one and now none of them work and they have not been replaced.”
Cllr Stuart Haslam confirmed that the area to the right of the Bolton train station entrance is controlled by TfGM which is responsible for the lighting.
He said: “The Interchange is due to be remodelled in the near future so they may be intending wholesale changes to them.”
TfGM confirmed that new floor lights have been ordered and are expected to be installed in the coming days.
A spokesman said: “The lights on Newport Street were decommissioned when the new interchange was built.
"Following discussions with local stakeholders, TfGM will now reinstate the floor lights.”
The vertical and stone wall light will not be replaced.
