Almost half a million pounds in funding has been secured for Bolton's sporting and leisure facilities.
The cash boost, worth £489,000 in total, will be used to help support the industry following the pandemic.
It will be shared between Bolton Community Leisure Trust and Bolton Arena, who are set to receive £374,000 and £115,000 respectively.
The money is from Sport England’s National Leisure Recovery Fund, which has been set up to help public leisure centres reopen safely for as many residents as possible.
According to Bolton Council, it will be invested in measures that will allow centres to open for longer and accommodate more people, such as protective screens and equipment to improve ventilation.
Bolton Council’s Deputy Leader, Coun Martyn Cox, said: "This successful funding bid by Bolton Council will help get our sports and leisure sector fighting fit for the Covid recovery.
"I know many residents can’t wait for our leisure centres to open and I’m sure they will join me in welcoming this news.
"But I also hope that investing in additional precautions will give those residents who may be reluctant to use the facilities the confidence they need to come along and join in.
"An active lifestyle has so many benefits for both our physical and mental health and I urge everyone to have a look at the many great activities that will be on offer."
Leisure centres are set to reopen on April 12, according to the government's roadmap.
Once the measures are in place, certain vulnerable groups will also be allowed to return for courses and activities.
