Bolton's leisure centres set to reopen this weekend - but things will be changing

Bolton Community Leisure has announced that its leisure centres will reopen this weekend.

Farnworth, Horwich and Westhoughton's leisure centres are all due to reopen on Saturday July 25, along with the Jason Kenny Centre in Bolton town centre.

The centres will be implementing a number of new safety measures in line with government guidelines.

Centres will have reduced opening hours and customers will have to book their sessions in advance, to help manage the centres' reduced capacities and social distancing.

Hand sanitiser stations or hand wash facilities will be available within the centres and yellow and black signs will be in place to help customers follow the guidelines.

Leverhulme Park Community Leisure Centre will also remain closed for the time being.

A spokesman for Bolton Community Leisure told members: "As you may have expected, we are not currently able to open all of our facilities and classes straight away on July 25.

"Our teams are working closely with governing bodies to ensure we are able to open further facilities as soon as possible. Once we are able to do so, we will be in touch to let you know all the details."

In an email sent out to members, Bolton Community Leisure also told customers that their next monthly direct debit payment in August would be reduced to compensate for the centres closing mid-way through March.

Memberships have been frozen for the past four months and customers can continue to freeze their memberships if they are unwell due to coronavirus.

Members can also do so if they have been classified as being at a high risk of contracting the virus or do not feel comfortable to attend the centres.

Customers who fit into the aforementioned criteria have been asked to email membershipenquiries@serco.com by July 27.

To book sessions, visit the Bolton Community Leisure website and choose your centre.
