Bolton's Joe Bunney hospitalised after suffering serious injuries in car crash

Bolton's Joe Bunney has been hospitalised after suffering serious injuries in a car crash.

The Trotters defender, 25, has broken his ribs and collarbone in the accident and will be kept in hospital for the next 48 hours.

It is understood he was taken to hospital in Preston after the incident.

He joined Bolton on a free transfer from Northampton Town on deadline day and is yet to make an appearance for Wanderers.

In a statement, the club said: "Bolton Wanderers can confirm that Joe Bunney has been involved in a road traffic accident.

"The defender received medical attention for broken ribs and a broken collarbone and is being supported by the club’s medical staff.

"He will remain in hospital for the next 48 hours as a precautionary measure.

"Everybody at Bolton Wanderers wishes Joe a quick recovery."

Left-back Bunney came through the youth ranks at Lancaster and also played at non-league sides Kendal, Stockport and Northwich Victoria.

He joined Rochdale in 2013 and spent five years at Spotland before leaving for Northampton in the summer of 2018.

Bunney spent time on loan at Blackpool and back at Rochdale before signing for Bolton as one of nine incomings for the League One crisis club on the transfer deadline.
