Bolton players go ON STRIKE over unpaid wages as club face another crisis

Bolton's players have gone on strike for 48 hours in protest at staff not getting paid at the crisis-hit club.

The squad have vowed not to train for the next two days after staff at the Championship club were not paid on time for the second month in a row.

Employees at the club were told a new owner would ensure salaries were paid on Friday, should a takeover go through, but that did not happen, which has led to the strike action.

The decision, backed unanimously by all first-team players, has been made in support of staff behind the scenes, including admin, stadium, hotel and training ground workers.

Players have refused to report for training until staff are paid, with Phil Parkinson's squad, second from bottom in the Championship, angry at a lack of information regarding a potential takeover.

Staff received an e-mail last week stating that a takeover of the club was "imminent" and that outstanding wages would be paid by the new owner, if a deal was agreed with controversial current owner Ken Anderson.

When the takeover did not happen and last month's salaries went unpaid again, the decision was taken by the players to refuse to train, in solidarity with club staff.
