Bolton man caught putting bottles of alcohol down his trousers

A Bolton man stole alcohol by stuffing bottles down his trousers.

William Henderson, 57, of Bury Road, appeared at Wigan and Leigh Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday (January 19).

He was charged with five counts of theft, relating to incidents between December 11 and January 14, at a supermarket on Breightmet  Fold Lane.

The cost of the stolen items totalled £136.42.

Henderson was identified from CCTV entering the store and taking bottles of alcohol from the display, police said.

He would then place them down his trousers and leave the shop.

Officers from the Breightmet Neighbourhood Team arrested Henderson on Monday.

Police say he also breached his community order, which was issued as a result of a number of thefts at the start of 2020.

Henderson was subsequently charged and remanded in police custody ahead of his court appearance.

He pleaded guilty to all counts and was sentenced to a community order, a 12-week curfew monitored electronically and ordered to pay £136.42 compensation.
