Bolton man arrested for 'driving erratically' through roadworks in North Wales

A Bolton man was arrested after 'driving erratically' through roadworks in North Wales.

Police were called after the van driver was seen knocking down cones on the A55 near Llanddulas at about 5pm on Wednesday, North Wales Police said.

The van was stopped by officers and the driver failed a roadside breath test.

The 33-year-old man was arrested at the scene.

He has now been charged with drink-driving in connection with the incident and is set to appear before court.

Drivers have been stuck in miles of queues since the roadworks began earlier this month.

The work, which is being carried out to repair the Kneeshaw Lupton bridge, is set to continue for another three weeks.

It is the second phase of the repair project following work in September 2018 which also saw motorists endure long delays in both directions.

The work was ordered to replace 35-year-old steel expansion joints linking sections of the bridge deck, which had suffered corrosion.

The joints allow the structure to move as more than 55,000 vehicles pass over the bridge on average each day.

The faults were picked up during a two-yearly inspection in December 2016.

Repairs to the bridge are set to be completed by 6am on Friday, October 11, but the Welsh Government are hopeful it can be finished even sooner.
