Bolton man arrested after 34-year-old man was hit by van and attacked with knife

A Bolton man has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder following a knife attack in broad daylight.

Police were called to Snowdon Avenue in Blackburn at 5.15am this morning to reports a man had been hit by a van and then seriously assaulted.

It is believed the driver hit the 34-year-old with a Vauxhall Movano and then attacked him with a knife.

The victim sustained what are described as life-changing injuries and was rushed to Royal Preston Hospital where he is receiving surgery to his leg.

Police say he is currently in a “serious but stable condition”.

The van driver fled the scene but the vehicle was later located on the M61 and was stopped near Horwich.

A spokesman for Lancashire Police said: "We were called at around 5:15am on Tuesday, May 5, to reports a man had been hit by a van and then assaulted on Snowdon Avenue, Blackburn.

"It is believed the victim, a 34-year-old local man, was struck by a Vauxhall Movano van and then attacked by the van driver with a knife.

"The victim suffered life changing injuries to his leg and was taken to Royal Preston Hospital, where he is currently undergoing surgery.

"It is unknown how serious his knife injuries are, but he is thought to be in a serious but stable condition.

"Nobody else is thought to have been injured during the incident.

"The driver of the Movano made off from the scene but was later located on the M61, where the van was stopped close to Horwich.
