Bolton injury update on Santos, Afolayan, John, Bodvarsson & Dempsey after Sheffield Wednesday draw

Ricardo Almeida Santos will definitely now not play a part for the rest of the season at Bolton Wanderers but Kyle Dempsey and Dapo Afolayan are expected to play again this campaign.

The trio all suffered hamstring problems in the draw to Portsmouth and all had to be substituted off.

Only Afolayan made the bench for yesterday's clash versus Sheffield Wednesday and was an unused substitute in the draw versus the Owls.

Wanderers went behind after the break when the Owls took the lead through Harlee Dean's header from Barry Bannan's corner came off the post and Jordan Storey was on hand to tap home.

But Bolton equalised before full-time when Aaron Morley's corner was only half cleared and MJ Williams fires home through a crowded penalty area to ensure Wanderers would get a share of the spoils.

Evatt revealed that Declan John was taken off in the encounter midway through the second half due to a tight hamstring, while Jon Dadi Bodvarsson is currently suffering with a back problem, with goalkeeper James Trafford having experienced some illness.

Afolayan and Dempsey should be fit to play again for the upcoming Easter clashes against Doncaster Rovers and Accrington Stanley, but Evatt said the former was not risked for fear of making the problem worse.

He said: “He (Afolayan) isn’t fit enough to play. The scan was clear, which is positive but he’s got some real stiffness and tightness in that hamstring and we felt like unless it was an absolute emergency just to keep him rested and make sure that we get it recovered because there’s no injury there, it’s just a real risk of injury if we’d have pushed him any further.

“He’s (John) got a tight hamstring as well. We’ve got Jon whose had a real bad back. We’ve had Traff who has been really ill, some more players with illness.

"It’s been one of those weeks really and obviously Rico’s scan is okay. It is just what we thought it is but it’s enough to keep him out for the remainder of the season.

"Demps should be okay for the Easter period and Dapo as well. We just have to find a way to get four results really and then we can really regroup and go again next season.”
