Bolton Hospital postpones surgeries as coronavirus puts pressure on NHS

Some patients awaiting “routine” surgeries at the Royal Bolton Hospital have had their operations postponed due to the coronavirus crisis.

As pressure on the NHS mounts, a spokesman for Bolton NHS Trust posted on Facebook warning that some procedures would need to be cancelled and rescheduled.

In other cases, planned appointments are being conducted over the phone to save patients from having to come into the hospital.

Staff will contact people in advance to let them know if their surgery has been postponed.

In the Facebook post, the hospital said: “We have started postponing some routine operations. All patients will be informed in advance of their scheduled surgery.

“Many appointments and clinics are still taking place. Please attend at the agreed date and time, unless you have been told otherwise.

“Some departments are conducting appointments over the telephone where possible.

"Thank you for your patience and understanding during these exceptional times.”
