Bolton defender reacts after Wanderers release confirmed and names one regret of spell

Jak Hickman has said he will never forget the memories of his spell at Bolton and said the one regret was that he never had the chance to play in front of the Wanderers fanbase.

The 22-year-old joined Wanderers last summer from Coventry City on an initial one-year deal at the University of Bolton Stadium.

Hickman played a total of seven times for Bolton as he made his EFL debut and scored the first professional goal of his career in the EFL Trophy against Newcastle United's under-23s.

He last appeared in a Wanderers matchday squad in mid-December against Cheltenham Town and moved out on loan for the rest of the campaign in early March to Kings Lynn Town.

There was an option of an extra year on Hickman's contract, but Wanderers have opted not to exercise it and he is among those who will leave Bolton at the end of June.

The defender has now spoken on social media about his spell at Bolton which gave him memories he will 'never forget'.

And he named the one regret of his spell was that he was not able to play in front of the Wanderers fanbase during his time at the club, which coincided with games taking place behind closed doors due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Taking to Twitter, the defender wrote: "Football league debut. First professional goal. First promotion, memories I’ll never forget.

"Some great people involved at the club who deserve all the success coming there (sic) way. Gave my all every time i got the opportunity to wear the shirt.

"My one regret will always be never getting to play in front of you special group of fans. All the very best for the future."
