Bolton coronavirus test centre now open for 'anyone with symptoms'

Anyone in Bolton who shows symptoms of the coronavirus can now get tested.

People who think they may have Covid-19 have been told to book a test at the pop-up site outside the University of Bolton Stadium.

The expansion in testing eligibility comes after all four UK Chief Medical Officers confirmed that anosmia has been added as a symptom of the virus.

Anosmia is the loss of or a change in your normal sense of smell and it can also affect your sense of taste.

This means you and your household should self-isolate immediately if you have:

  • A new continuous cough
  • A high temperature
  • A loss of or change in your normal sense of smell or taste

Bolton Council's Executive Cabinet Member for Health and Wellbeing, Coun Susan Baines, said: "It’s important anyone who develops symptoms contacts us to arrange for a test for themselves and members of their household, within the first three days of getting symptoms.

“While they are waiting for the test results you, and all members of your household, must continue to self-isolate according to government guidelines.

“It’s important people are also aware that if they have a change in their sense of smell or taste they also should self-isolate and arrange for a test.

“I’d like to take this opportunity to thank all the staff and partners who have set up the testing centre and are managing it.

“Their work during this time is vital to helping to keep everyone safe.”

Testing is available by appointment only.

To book a coronavirus test fill in a form on the council’s website.

Residents can also use the national website to self-refer to a regional test centre (Manchester Airport or Haydock Racecourse), where they will need to drive to the facility or request a home testing kit.

If you are unable to access the internet, call 119 in England to book a test at a regional site.
