Bolton coronavirus heatmap shows huge difference in cases from borough-to-borough

Some Bolton boroughs have registered more than ten times as many new coronavirus cases as others, figures show.

Data from Public Health England for the week leading up to September 3 details a huge increase in new infections in specific areas.

In parts of Breightmet there were 30 new cases of Covid-19 registered on the official figures, while in sections of Horwich and Westhoughton there were less than two.

It comes amid an extremely sharp increase in new coronavirus cases over the last few weeks which has left Bolton with the highest infection rate in the country.

There has been a general increase in the number of new infections in nearly every borough of Bolton, but in some areas the rise has been much steeper.

The data is measured by areas of around 2,700 people, meaning some traditional council ward or borough boundaries are split.

But, Breightmet South and Darcy Lever registered the most new case, with 30 people testing positive over seven days.
