Bolton coffee shop closes due to coronavirus lockdown

A popular coffee shop will not reopen when the coronavirus lockdown is lifted.

Karen's Little Kitchen on Market Street, Westhoughton, is set to close, partly because of the pressure brought on by the pandemic.

The announcement has led dozens of people to leave messages of support on the cafe's Facebook page, thanking the owners for their work and sharing memories.

The coffee shop has been a mainstay on Westhoughton's high street for nearly four years and is a popular spot for local people to visit.

In a post on Facebook, the owners of the business revealed that it would remain closed despite the lockdown rules set to ease this weekend.

"It is with a heavy heart I write this message," they said.

"Due to COVID-19 and personal reasons Karen’s Little Kitchen will not be opening her doors again.

"I would like to thank you all for your continued support, custom and love over the past three-and-a-half years.

"I have loved my time in Westhoughton and enjoyed meeting every one of you. I have precious memories and treasure all the friendships I have made.

"But, the time has come to close our doors at 9A Market Street."

The lockdown rules are set to be eased this weekend, with pubs, restaurants and cafes now allowed to open to customers.

But, businesses will be expected to put in rules to ensure social distancing and make sure crowds of people do not develop.
