Bolton boss Ian Evatt confirms Aaron Morley decision for Ipswich Town and makes Wycombe claim

Ian Evatt felt his Bolton side gave Wycombe Wanderers the opportunity to manage the game against his side after taking the lead.

The first half proved to be a fiery and feisty encounter as tackles flew in, the physio teams entered the pitch twice and the match officials were berated by the home faithful.

Dapo Afolayan went close early on with a low drive at goal, before Garath McCleary raced clean through on goal at the other end - only to be denied expertly by Wanderers stopper Joel Dixon.

Amadou Bakayoko and Dion Charles then combined brilliantly but, as the latter looked set to score, his powerful side-footed effort was palmed away by the strong right hand of David Stockdale.

Bolton found themselves in dangerous attacking positions throughout but were punished for not capitalising, when Brandon Hanlan fired a low shot into the bottom right corner.

And Jack Grimmer curled home a beauty of a second on his left foot, just seven minutes after the restart.

Wanderers huffed and puffed for the rest of the half, getting in down the sides and trying to force their way back into the contest, but it wasn't to be.

Evatt admitted that all inside the University of Bolton Stadium of a Wanderers persuasion were frustrated by some of the decisions made by the officials and timewasting done by the visitors.

But the Bolton boss branded the Chairboys as the 'masters of game management' and something that his side lost their focus as a result.

He said: “I think we all were getting frustrated, but the thing is and we speak about it a lot and Wycombe are the masters of game management if you want to call it that, and if you concede that first goal you give them the opportunity to manage the game accordingly and I think they’re experienced, they’ve just come down from the Championship.

"They did that and frustrated everybody, but it’s important that you don’t lose your focus and I thought we lost our focus and belief of what we’re trying to do because we were too busy getting involved with the antics that were going on around us.

"At that point you have to be even more concentrated, do things that we’re trying to do even better than what we were. The frustrating thing is when you’re on top in these games, and we were on top in the first half, you have to get that first goal because it changes everything. Goals change games and at the moment we’re not scoring enough.”

Aaron Morley was confirmed as Bolton's third January transfer window signing before the game, adding to the acquisitions of Dion Charles and Marlon Fossey on loan.

Evatt confirmed that Morley will be in the reckoning to play a part this weekend against Ipswich Town and will add to the Wanderers engine room.

He said: “Yeah absolutely. He brings some composure and quality in possession. I think we’ve come away from what we are a little bit at the moment and needs must because some lads are lacking in confidence.

"We’ve had a huge change in personnel for the last two or three months and we’ve lacked some consistency. The team’s chopping and changing every week, we’re putting square pegs in round holes, so to speak, so for now it’s about getting people in the right positions, strengthening the group.

"Aaron is a big part of that, I think you can see what the other two can bring as well. They’re all good players and they will come in and make us better.”
