Bolton-based Watson Laurie acquired by leading UK insurance broker Bollington Wilson

A Greater Manchester insurance firm has been acquired by leading independent broker Bollington Wilson.

The deal for Bolton-based Watson Laurie is an undisclosed sum, and Bollington's fourth acquisition this year, expanding its offering and strengthening its regional presence.

The deal was supported by private equity firm Inflexion, which has worked to help Bollington's expansion since 2017.

Paul Moors, group chief executive of Sale-based Bollington Wilson, said: “This is a tremendous opportunity to bring together two fantastic businesses.

“We’ve long admired Watson Laurie as an entrepreneurial, well-run insurance broker with an impressive portfolio of specialisms that are highly complementary to our own.

“This acquisition helps to cement our position as one of the UK’s largest independent insurance groups.”

Watson Laurie, which manages over £25m in annual premiums, was founded in 1988, and its specialisms include corporate risks, property and construction.
