Bolton are relieved just to be focusing on football again - but they'll be no pushovers for Sunderland

Bolton have had absolutely manic few months to say the very least.

When Sunderland arrive in the North West on Saturday they'll face a club who will be relieved just to be playing football again.

Bolton faced uncertainty about their future as they faced going into administration, that was until Football Ventures (Whites) Limited took the club over at the back end of last month.

They were the lucky club. Just 12 miles down the road, Bury were expelled from the EFL for failing to find a new owner.

As the saga around Bolton unfolded, players began to strike over unpaid wages. In fact, the Trotters started the new season with just seven registered players, and had to call upon their youth team to fill in the gaps.

Although Bolton have landed a new owner and signed nine players on transfer deadline day, they started this League One season on -12 points. So far, while they've lost five of their games this season, they've also drawn two.

One of these draws came in midweek against Oxford, as they're trying resume normal service and put the woes of the last few months behind them. However, one incredibly unlikely draw came against Coventry last month.

Now sat at the top of League One, Coventry were hovering around the top part of the table in the early days of the season. Bolton were left to field their youngest ever team, averaging just 18 years and 10 months.

The young side showed incredible bravery and passion taking on the challenge for a club that was facing arguably its lowest point in its 145-year history.

Helped with a dollop of luck, Coventry were left deeply frustrated after having three disallowed goals in the entire match. However, nothing can knock the young side that stepped up to the plate, who even threatened Coventry with a couple of decent chances.

The same side was fielded in their next three games against Tranmere, Ipswich and Gillingham. Unfortunately for them, the young Wanderers were handed three 5-0 thrashings by each side.

Then as new players and a new manager were brought into the fold, they've faced a 6-1 battering from Rotherham and a well-fought out 0-0 draw wtth Oxford.

Only one of the players from the young Trotters team has retained his place in the side after the introduction of the new senior players were brought in. 19-year-old Dennis Politic finds himself among the starters in the new side, whereas a handful of the others now feature on the bench.

New gaffer Keith Hill has already added that his side are relishing the challenge that playing Sunderland brings, he described it as a "massive learning curve" for his squad.

Although Bolton are now under new ownership and have a number of senior and experienced players in their team, they'll be eager to replicate the heroics displayed by their feisty young side at Coventry against the Black Cats.

It's essential that Sunderland take Bolton's incredible resilience into account when they face them on Saturday.
