Bologna going 'above and beyond' to beat Bayern Munich to signature of Hearts defender Aaron Hickey

Bologna are going "above and beyond" in a bid to beat Bayern Munich to the signature of Hearts defender Aaron Hickey.

The 18-year-old full-back has been the subject of significant transfer speculation for quite some time, with a host of massive European clubs interested.

It now appears that Bayern and Bologna are in a two-way battle to secure his services, and reports emerged earlier this week that the Bavarian giants were in pole position.

However Sky Sports' Italian reporter Gianluca Di Marzio now claims that the Serie A club are not yet prepared to give up in their pursuit of Hickey, and have even made fresh contact with the player's camp in a bid to push a deal closer.

He added: "The player has already visited Bologna's training ground, but the Emiliani face strong competition from Bayern Munich.

"Sinisa Mihajlovic's club is going above and beyond in the hope that the player accepts their offer which is why there was new contact made today."

It emerged on Monday evening that Bayern were favourites to sign the left back.

The Daily Record reported that the Bavarian side offered the 18-year-old a lucrative five year deal which would see him link up with fellow Scots Barry Hepburn and Liam Morrison.
