Bollywood legend Rajinikanth rushed to hospital on Christmas Day during movie shoot

Bollywood star Rajinikanth has been admitted to hospital on Christmas Day.

The Indian actor, whose real name is Shivaji Rao Gaekwad, had been working on a movie where people on the set tested positive for Covid-19.

He had tested negative.

The 70-year-old star has been taken to hospital after suffering from high blood pressure.

He'd been shooting a movie in Hyderabad, in India, for the last 10 days.

A press release from Apollo Hospitals said: "Mr Rajinikanth has been admitted in the hospital today in the morning. He was shooting for a movie in Hyderabad since the last 10 days.

"A couple of people on the sets tested positive for Covid-19. Mr Rajinikanth was tested on 22nd December for Covid-19 and he was negative. Since then he isolated himself and was monitored closely."

It added: "Though he did not have any symptoms of Covid-19, his blood pressure showed severe fluctuations and needed further evaluation for which he has been admitted to the hospital.

"He will be investigated and monitored closely in the hospital till his blood pressure settles down before being discharged.

"Apart from fluctuating blood pressure and exhaustion he does not have any other symptoms and is hemodynamically stable."

Rajinikanth was working on movie Annaatthe when eight people on the set tested positive for coronavirus, according to local reports.

The shoot had started on December 14 after movie bosses created a bio bubble for the cast and crew.

Rajinikanth's publicist Riaz Ahmed confirmed the news, telling IndiaToday : "Eight crew members have tested Covid-19 positive. It is unclear if Rajinikanth would come back to Chennai or quarantine himself in Hyderabad. Further details are awaited."
