Bollywood actor Sushant Singh Rajput dead from suspected suicide at 34

Bollywood actor Sushant Singh Rajput was found dead at his Mumbai home Sunday.

He was 34.

Rajput was found hanging inside his apartment, according to local reports, and police are investigating his death as a suicide.

"Sushant Singh Rajput ... a bright young actor gone too soon," Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi tweeted. "He excelled on TV and in films. His rise in the world of entertainment inspired many and he leaves behind several memorable performances. Shocked by his passing away. My thoughts are with his family and fans. Om Shanti."

Rajput is best known for his role as former Indian cricket team captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni in the 2016 movie "M.S. Dhoni: The Untold Story" and as Manav in the TV series "Pavitra Rishta," or "Sacred Ties," from 2009 to 2014. He was last seen in Netflix's "Drive" in 2019.

"Honestly this news has left me shocked and speechless," Bollywood star Akshay Kumar tweeted.

"I can't believe this at all ... it's shocking ... a beautiful actor and a good friend ... it's disheartening," actor Nawazuddin Siddiqui wrote.

Rajput's spokesperson asked that fans "keep him in their thoughts and celebrate his life, and his work like they have done so far."
