Bolingbrook worker injured when 3,000-pound coil falls on leg, police say

Feb. 03--A 25-year-old man suffered a non-life-threatening injury after a 3,000-pound steel coil fell on his leg at a warehouse in Bolingbrook on Tuesday morning, police said.

Bolingbrook police Lt. Carter Larry said police and paramedics responded to the incident at D Manufacturing Inc. in the 500 block of Territorial Drive and took the man to an area hospital.

D Manufacturing officials could not be reached for a comment.

The Occupational Safety and Health Administration said its employees will visit the company Wednesday to determine if an inspection should be opened regarding the matter. Rhonda Burke, a spokeswoman with OSHA, said the agency has an open inspection with D Manufacturing due to a complaint alleging unsafe working conditions.

The company also received three citations in December. D did not provide separate two-hand controls for a two-person operation on a punch press, didn't report an amputation within 24 hours and did not record adequate descriptions of injuries or illness in its log book, Burke said.

The company, which has two locations in Bolingbrook and one in El Paso, Texas, was inspected four times in 2015 and received various citations that resulted in penalties of more than $160,000.
