A driver from Bolingbrook was allegedly speeding on wet pavement Monday when he crashed head-on into a 28-year-old woman driving in Lombard.

Richard Kennedy, 54, faces a county of reckless homicide in connection to the June 22 crash that killed Dulce Olivia Avila-Adame, according to the DuPage County state’s attorney’s office.

Kennedy allegedly crossed over solid lane markings on Route 53 at Hill Avenue into oncoming traffic before striking Avila-Adame, prosecutors and Lombard police said.

Avila-Adame, 28, lived in Villa Park, according to DuPage County Coroner Richard Jorgensen.

Kennedy remains hospitalized due to the crash, prosecutors said. A DuPage County judge on Wednesday issued a $50,000 arrest warrant for Kennedy.

“It is alleged that Mr. Kennedy’s reckless actions caused a head-on collision that took the life of Dulce Olivia Avila-Adame,” State’s Attorney Robert Berlin said in a statement. “I would like to take this opportunity to remind the motoring public to please be careful, be patient and obey all rules of the road when driving.”

Kennedy also faces a misdemeanor count of speeding more than 35 mph over the limit and driving too fast for conditions, according to court records.
