Charges were pending for a man who shot a police officer before barricading himself inside his home in Bolingbrook over the weekend, according to Bolingbrook police.

About 6:15 p.m. Sunday, officers responded to a call of a theft at a business in the 100 block of South Bolingbrook Drive. Police said the suspect had fled the scene but returned an hour later and fired multiple shots at the business.

After a nearly four-hour search, police found the man at his residence in the 100 block of West Briarcliff Road, police said. As officers approached, the man opened fire, striking an officer twice before barricading himself inside his home, police said.

The officer was taken to a nearby hospital and is expected to make a full recovery.

Illinois State Police obtained a search warrant and entered the home about 1 a.m. Monday. The suspect, identified by police as 24-year-old Victor Zarate, was taken into custody, police said.

Illinois State Police were investigating. Charges were pending.
