Boli Bolingoli rinsed by English Premier League stars as Celtic outlaw earns bizarre on-air slapdown

He has been savaged from every section of Scottish football but now Boli Bolingoli has attracted criticism from further afield.

Every manager, pundit and fan north of the border has had their say on the shamed Celtic star’s actions; none more so than Neil Lennon who eviscerated his player during Tuesday’s press conference.

The left-back enjoyed an unsanctioned break in Spain before flying back to Scotland and flagrantly flouting quarantine protocols.

It left Lennon livid, caused Chris Sutton to erupt and made St Mirren – the club Celtic were supposed to be playing on Wednesday night – simmer. And that’s not to mention what it did to Nicola Sturgeon.

Now two stars from down south who played in the world’s richest and most high-profile league in the world have waded in with a rather unique take on Bolingoli’s folly.

Darren Bent and Andros Townsend reckon the former Rapid Vienna player wasn’t hammered for his selfishness but rather his failure to get round the rules.

Former Aston Villa and Tottenham star Bent told talkSPORT: "Flying out of Glasgow? Come on, that is just schoolboy that."

Crystal Palace’s Townsend jumped in and added: "It's the obliviousness. If you knew you were going to break the law, you would fly into London and drive up to Glasgow.

"But you have two of the most passionate set of fans in Glasgow (audible laughter), it's just obliviousness."
