Boli Bolingoli-Mbombo's instant Celtic boost as Belgium No.2 Shaun Maloney to scout left-back

Belgium are considering an immediate international call up for Celtic new boy Boli Bolingoli-Mbombo as Arsenal prepare to launch another bid for Kieran Tierney.

The 24-year-old flew into Glasgow last night to put pen to paper on a £3m move from Rapid Vienna and Record Sport understands Arsenal will launch a second bid to snare Tierney in the next 48 hours.

Mbombo’s meteoric rise has caught the attention of Belgium’s national boss Roberto Martinez who has recently dispatched his head of scouting to run the rule over the left-back with a view to a call up to the squad ranked No.1 in the world.

And now Martinez plans to send right hand man, former Celtic forward Shaun Maloney, back to Parkhead a week on Wednesday to make a personal check on Mbombo in Champions League action in the qualification second leg against FK Sarajevo.

That could see the previously uncapped Mbombo fast-tracked straight into Belgium’s plans for the next Euro 2020 qualification double header away to San Marino and Steve Clarke’s Scotland at Hampden.

But it seems increasingly doubtful that Tierney will still be a Celtic player by the time those September dates come around - especially now that his replacement, who was also linked with English top flight clubs Burnley and Sheffield United, appears to have been secured.
