Boli BolingoIi Celtic transfer escape route emerges as Reading 'monitor' full back amid pre-season exile

Celtic misfit Boli Bolingoli is reportedly attracting interest from English Championship side Reading as he looks to bring an end to his Parkhead nightmare.

The full-back was shipped out on loan to FC Ufa in January, but the temporary deal was cut short following Russia's invasion of Ukraine and the full-back did not arrive back in Glasgow's east end and instead trained alone in his native Belgium. His absence has continued into Ange Postecoglou's pre-season preparations for the upcoming campaign, having not reported to Lennoxtown for the first week of training.

Bolingoli still has a year left on his contract at Celtic, but that could be prematurely ended as the Glasgow club are expected to try and cut their losses in the summer. Argentinian Alexandro Bernabei has been brought in from Lanus to compete with Greg Taylor for a starting spot, pushing the 27-year-old further down the pecking order ahead of the new campaign.

The defender last played for Celtic against Motherwell back in October, and an exit route appears to be emerging for the forgotten star. The Reading Chronicle state that the Royals are "keeping tabs" on the defender.

However, they note that a transfer fee could prove to be a stumbling block for the club. It is not that it would take a loan spell or for the Premiership champions to terminate his deal in order for a move to come to fruition.
