Bold potential stadium plans which would affect Bolton Wanderers in EFL attempt to finish season

Football games in the EFL could be played at 'regional hubs' instead of clubs' own stadiums to complete the 2019/20 season, according to reports.

Football has been postponed since mid-March due to the coronavirus pandemic.

The timeframe for completing the season is getting smaller by the week so the EFL is considering a range of options.

And according to the Evening Standard, the EFL has written to all of its clubs, including Bolton Wanderers and Salford City, earlier this week regarding the potential of putting on multiple games at approved regional hubs across the country.

The report says each club has been asked to submit an 'operational plan' around the staging games behind closed doors without supporters.

Though the EFL would prefer remaining matches to take place at normal grounds, the report adds the proposal would 'likely' have grounds in the North West, North East, Midlands, South West and London approved.

It is not known, if the plan goes ahead, whether the venues chosen would host games by division or have matches from across all three tiers of the EFL.

The report adds that no decisions have yet been taken, but that the EFL wants to have plans if place if the Government approves the return of football, though it also says the grounds plan is 'unlikely' to garner universal approval across the three divisions.

Away from this proposal, Wanderers have confirmed the club has 'provisional' plans if it hears the season is to resume, which is likely to be behind closed doors.

The club has added there would be weeks of run ups to any games and that plans put in place would match the contemporary guidance issued at the time.

The Whites are bottom of League One and 21 points from safety, with 10 games left to play of their current season.
