Bold driver without tax for 9 months nabbed at Dublin city centre garda COVID checkpoint

There have been garda COVID checkpoints around the country ensuring that the public are only travelling for essential reasons and keeping in line with coronavirus guidelines.

But while that may be their main focus, less than intelligent lawbreakers have been nabbed for other offences, and very simply too.

In Dublin city centre this week one particular driver who failed to ensure all their car's particulars were up to date got caught on the hop.

The driver of the Volkswagen Golf now faces a court date and had their car seized - all because they didn't bother to renew their car tax.

And it wasn't just "forgotten" about because they hadn't had it taxed for 284 days - over nine months!

Posting an update, gardai said: "Kevin Street Gardaí were conducting a checkpoint as part of #OperationFanacht when they stopped this car. It transpired that the car had not been taxed for 284 days. The car was seized. Proceedings to follow."
