BoJack Horseman actor Aaron Paul says it was Netflix which decided to pull the plug on the animated series.
Paul voices BoJack’s friend Todd Chavez, in the TV show, where the title character is a B-list actor who also happens to be a horse.
It was announced on Friday that BoJack Horseman would end after its sixth season.
Paul reacted to the news of the cancellation on Twitter, writing: “We had a wonderful time making BoJack. Couldn’t be more proud.
“Fell in love with these characters just like everyone else did but sadly Netflix thought it was time to close the curtains and so here we are. They gave us a home for 6 beautiful years. Nothing we could do about it.”
The Independent has contacted Netflix for comment.
BoJack Horseman premiered in 2014. Over the past five years, the show has earned wide acclaim for its honest and unforgiving portrayal of fame, mental health and other societal issues.
While it was long considered snubbed by the Emmys, it earned a nomination as Outstanding Animated Programme at the 2019 ceremony. Kristen Schaal, who voiced the character of Sarah Lynn, was also nominated for Outstanding Character Voice-Over Performance in 2017.
The series is now to end after a two-part sixth season.
The first instalment will air on 25 October, to be followed by a second chapter on 31 January.
