Boise State QB Chase Cord Still Not Fully Healthy

The Quarterback situation is not clear.
At Mountain West media days there are tidbits and news made with coaches chatting with the media and one of the biggest pieces of news comes out of Boise State which still has not named its starting quarterback.
The frontrunner is Chase Cord and is being challenged by true freshman Hank Bachmeier. That battle to be the starting quarterback heading into the Florida State game in Week 1 could be prolonged since head coach Brian Harsin said Cord is not ready to practice.
Cord’s injury is an ACL which he tore last October and it seems like the coaching staff is taking extra precautions to make sure he is fully healthy. The date from the injury to fall camp starting in late July is nine months and then 10 once the season begins.
“The one thing with any competitor is that they will push themselves and it is our responsibility that they are healthy, that they are going to be OK and we do not have a re-injury,” Harsin said to Blue Turf Sports.
“Really we didn’t get to see Chase in spring so when he does have his opportunity, he’s gotta go out there and get in the mix too and be part of the competition at that position. At some point, we make the decision at who will go out there and play in the first game.”
Harsin went on to say that Cord will be cleared by fall camp but will slowly work him into the practice since he has not played in a long time. There is no reason to rush Cord into practices and cause a setback heading into the Florida State game.
It seems that there will be a full-fledged quarterback competition heading through fall camp for Boise State.
