Keith Long has described his frustration at the fact that Bohemians’ European revolution is not being televised.
The Gypsies made history on Tuesday night when they secured a 2-1 first-leg lead over Greek giants PAOK, courtesy of a brace from Ali Coote.
However, the match was only seen by the 8,000 at the Aviva Stadium and those who paid out €10 for a live stream of the game.
Long said: “I think tonight would have been great value for the licence payer.
“You only have to witness Dundalk’s run in Europe a couple of seasons back on their first run — the whole footballing nation got behind Dundalk at the time and were proud of how they performed in Europe.
“Unfortunately the wider public have been denied a nice story for the club. But I am very proud of the team and how the club has conducted itself in Europe.”
Long insisted that his side would have a “fighting chance” of seeing off PAOK in Greece next week, as he hailed their first-leg result against a side packed with senior international players, including former Manchester United man Shinji Kagawa.
Two goals from Coote fired Bohs into dreamland, before a Nelson Oliveira header 13 minutes from time handed PAOK a lifeline.
Long said: “We have a fighting chance, I think we showed that tonight.
“We have shown that we are capable of creating chances and we have kept the tie alive, we have more than done that tonight.”
